Huelva: The City

Huelva, The Land of My Heart

I think the best way to show our city is with a video that I found in Youtube. It's really beautiful. Thanks for the creator!

If you don't understand what is written on the video:

At the beginning it says A land created by Light and Salt in my heart...

Finally it ends up by saying Huelva from the sky and the name of the creator, the editing and the music that sounds.

With the images you can get a simple idea of Huelva:

Our gorgeous types of landscape, we've got lots of kilometres of coasts, the dusks seen from the beaches are wonderful, the forests, the marshlands and the sea, it's precious to do a journey by a sailboat looking at the birds like the gulls and the typical flora.

There are really high buildings in Huelva and long bridge where you enter to there. We've got a port too where the ships and boats ties up, about that we are famous of the fishing and the city is near to the sea. Monuments, as The Monument To The Faith Discoverer (minute 1:25 in the video), beautiful parks, the football Stadium 'The Colombino' (minute 0:40 in the video) and the traditional spanish Bulls Circus(minute 1:20 in the video) make Huelva a destination for the tourism for people that enjoy travelling. We are proud of Huelva!

Huelva has got endless and beatiful beaches. On the coast of Huelva there are a lot of marinas. The beaches of Huelva are the best places for doing water sports as surf, water sking etc.

In the Park Natural of Doñana there are a lot of diferents class of animals like the linx and the eagle. The linx is endangered and there are few linx in all the Spain.

Huelva has got a very rich coast in fish. In Huelva you can fish from the beach or from a boat. I think Huelva has got some beautiful beaches.

Huelva: The Easter

This is a video of one of the most important events in our city: "The Holy Week" that takes place in Easter, represents the Passion of Christ and a symbol of the culture of Huelva too. This year is from the April 17 until April 24. It consists of...

-Lay brotherhoods, (cofradías), process through the city in huge parades from Palm Sunday until Easter Sunday. In our city there are 26 brotherhoods which are distributed during the week as "The Nazareno" or "The Esperanza".

-Costaleros bear the pasos, huge floats, made of painted wood that carrying religious figures.

-Others,Penitents (penitentes) and Nazarenes (nazarenos), who wear their distinctive costumes, walk alongside the pasos. Along the processions many people sing saetas, wich are flamenco verses mourning Christ's passion. The Huelva celebrations date back to the sixteenth century.

Huelva is also famous for many things, for example Huelva was where Cristobal Colón left to discover a new place in the world, actually America.

We also have one of the best ham of the world and an important mining industry.

Corta Atalaya: It's the biggest mine in Europe. You can't get an idea of how big is it... Is as deep as the Eiffel Tower!

To build it an entired village was demolished and rebuilt a few km away.

Rio Tinto (the village where Corta Atalaya is) is being studied by the NASA because the ground is like the Mars one.

Now it's closed.

Huelva is also famous for the archeology, whatever you scratch maybe you can find roman remains, It's becuse Huelva is build on top of a roman city.

In Huelva also was a medieval castle, but now it is not here. It was too old and quite big.

There was an earthquake on Lisboa that destroyed much of Huelva. That's the reason Huelva doesn't have many old monuments but still retains a mosque of the fifteenth century. In Huelva also was an triumphal arch bigger than the París one.

This spring was build with the iron that was left of the Eiffel Tower, and It was designed by the same architect. This spring was very important for the mining industry and for the economy of Huelva.

These are the beautiful things, but of course, there are another things aren't so beautiful.

This video show the ugly thing of Huelva, like the factories, the pollution of the city, the discharges into the sea and how we contaminate the Huelva's estuary.

Huelva has 120 tons of toxic waste and 7 tons of radioactive ash.

Recreativo of Huelva

It´s our football team.

It was founded in 1889. It´s the oldest team of Spain, so it´s also called the senior team of Spanish football. Now, the team plays in second division, but it isn´t a problem because we continue supporting Recreativo with the same happiness. It hasn´t a lot of budget so the players aren´t too known, but they´re modest and good players.

The supporters are really faithful and they´re always at the stadium encouraging our club. The fans won a prize because they were and they continue being one of the best.
